Professor Ian Alexander invited to present in Geneva

Prof. Ian Alexander was invited to speak at the SSIEM (Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism) Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland (30 August 2011 – 2 September 2011). Prof Alexander presented an overview of gene therapy for metabolic disorders especially ornithine-transcarbamylase deficiency.

Key stakeholders in cell and gene therapies meet in Singapore

Our Quality Manager, Richard Makin, attended the Phacilitate Cell and Gene Therapy Forum in Singapore on 19-21 September 2011. The forum focused on the commercial opportunities and challenges (regulatory and political) in the emerging Asian and Australia markets.   A number of novel research and commercial products were showcased including preventive and regenerative therapies. Key stakeholders also discussed partnering opportunities with commercial and academic, hospital-based projects and strategic measures in capitalising on this evolving industry.

SCGT provide technical expertise in cellular therapy accreditations

1/10/2011 In addition to working hard to maintain NATA and FACT accreditation a number of key SCGT staff have donated their time in 2012 to provide technical expertise to the accreditation bodies in assessments of other cellular therapy facilities. For a number of years our staff have assisted as NATA technical assessors. In 2012, we have provided inspectors for the clinical, collection and laboratory components of FACT inspections.

SCGT presented at the HAA ISHAPD 2011 Meeting

Dr Ken Micklethwaite, Dr Leighton Clancy and Vicki Antonenas presented some of their findings at the joint scientific meeting at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre Darling Harbour 30 October -2 November 2011. They presented data on our Immunotherapy research and BMT clinical service.

SCGT Chairman Professor Jeremy Chapman instrumental in Notify Project

Prof Chapman recently chaired the Transmission of Malignancy committee of the Notify Project. The Notify Project, an initiative of the World Health and assisted reproduction. This database is readily available via www.notifylibrary.org and is a valuable resource for institutions worldwide requiring the latest as well as historical vigilance and surveillance information.

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead Blood and Marrow Transplant Service awarded FACT accreditation

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead Blood and Marrow Transplant Service has earned FACT accreditation for pediatric autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation, bone marrow and peripheral blood cellular therapy product collection, and cellular therapy product processing. They achieved accreditation by demonstrating compliance with the FACT-JACIE International Standards for Cellular Therapy Product Collection, Processing and Administration.
