About Sydney Cell and Gene Therapy
Sydney Cell and Gene Therapy has about 40 research staff involved in cellular therapeutics and gene therapy in the Westmead health precinct in the west of Sydney. SCGT is a joint venture by three of Sydney’s leading Medical Research Institutes and two Area Health Services. SCGT is made up of:
- The Children’s Hospital at Westmead
- Westmead Hospital
- Children’s Medical Research Institute
- Westmead Millennium Institute
- Kids Research Institute
SCGT at the Westmead campus in Western Sydney is located in one of the largest healthcare and research precincts in the southern hemisphere.
High level of clinical and research experience
The joint venture partners are all located at Westmead. Originally working together as part of the Westmead Research Hub the partners have used a co-operative approach to share common research technologies, to leverage their funding and to maximise their effectiveness. This has created a research unit with the highest clinical and research experience in cell and gene-based therapeutics in Australia.
The development of the shared facilities and associated research synergies has led to the establishment of Sydney Cell and Gene Therapy, an entity created to support in-house innovative research and third party research organisations.
Our vision
Our vision is to support gene and cellular therapeutic activity on the Westmead campus and to promote advances in the biologicals and medical devices industry by providing access to leading experts, state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities and robust quality systems.
